Early in 2011, NHPHA adopted a strategic plan for 2011-2014. The plan focuses our resources on two strategic intents: Support public health professionals in NH, and Be a voice for public health in NH.
Support public health professionals: NHPHA provides professional education including two conferences annually, both of which focus on public health work and challenges in New Hampshire while connecting our work to what is going on in other states and nationally. We also work to connect students to public health professionals and projects, hoping to make connections that will keep them in NH after graduation. Under this strategic intent we are working to better inform and engage our members and to facilitate networking across the many fields of public health.
Be a voice for public health: NHPHA has always been an active advocacy group working with many other organizations to support science-based public health policy. We will continue to monitor legislation, provide testimony on selected bills, update our policy position statements, and work to educate legislators so they see public health in everything they do. We are also trying to help the general public to understand public health. It has been said that “when public health is doing its job, it is invisible.” At NHPHA, we are tired of being invisible and want to make the work of all public health programs very visible and very real. We are establishing a presence on Facebook and Twitter; we have significantly improved the look and functionality of our website—and now we are collecting stories of public health successes in NH. Watch the website for these!!
