About NHPHA

Background NHPHA was incorporated in 1992 as a 501c(3) private, not-for-profit organization, and in January 2004, declared 501c(3)(h) status. The New Hampshire Public Health Association (NHPHA):
  • brings together people interested in public health, and provides a forum for the exchange of public health information;
  • speaks on public health issues with a voice that is manifestly separate and distinct from the State Government;
  • aids in identifying public health problems within the State;
  • informs the citizenry of changes needed in the laws and government in order to improve public health;
  • educates members of the New Hampshire legislature, executive branch, courts, cities and towns, federal government and others on matters pertaining to public health;
  • promotes education in the public health field.

Mission: The mission of NH Public Health Association is to strengthen the public health system to more effectively protect and improve the health and safety of our population.

Values: We embrace the following value statements:

  • Public health's central focus is on the health of the population and the environment, ensuring healthy people in healthy communities.
  • Public health programs and policies must be evidence-based.
  • Public health's primary focus is on health promotion and disease and injury prevention.
  • Public health recognizes the social and biological determinants of health, and the right of all people to optimum health.
  • The public's health requires the ongoing collaboration of public and private entities, interdisciplinary teams, and the involvment of all segments of the public.
