Prevalence Rates of Long COVID in the U.S.: Why Do Such Major Differences Exist? One of the more unique and mysterious aspects of the COVID-19 virus has been what most experts now refer to as “Long COVID” (Choi et al., 2023; Daniel et al.,2023; Kim et al., 2023; Sawant et al., 2023). Although COVID-19 has existed fora little over four years, many healthcare and medical professionals are still unsure of what, exactly, Long COVID is, how it impacts individuals, and why some people are more susceptible to it than others (Daniel et al., 2023; Fordet al., 2024; Kim et al., 2023; Ma et al., 2024). For those who may be unfamiliar with Long COVID, symptoms include fatigue, respiratory issues, and neurological problems that can occur weeks, or months, following a positiveCOVID-19 diagnosis (Ford et al., 2024; Ma et al., 2024; Sawant et al., 2023). Despite the uncertainty that still surrounds this phenomenon, researchers have attempted to study numerous components of it; and one of these components includes susceptibility ...

State Retirees in Peril: New Hampshire Officials Show Outrage over Anthem’s Medicare Advantage ContractStatistics reveal that the population of the United States is growing older, especially since healthcare has improved over the last several decades and people are living longer than ever before (Chung & Hean, 2023; MacKinney et al., 2019; Yang et al., 2024). Thus, it makes sense that states will invest in programs and services that will keep their older populations healthy, happy, and comfortable. One such program exists in New Hampshire; the program, known as Medicare Advantage, provides state retirees with access to healthcare and prescriptions at an inexpensive price (Bookman,2024; Landrigan, 2024). The program was taken over by Anthem Blue Cross BlueShield beginning on January 1, 2024 ...

Living Alone and Depressed: Experts Discuss Strategies to Reduce Loneliness and Social IsolationSocial isolation and loneliness have become two of the top public health issues of the twenty-first century, and many research studies have been undertaken over the past two decades to determine what, exactly, cause these issues and what can bed one to remediate them (Adams et al., 2023; Hong & Lee, 2022; Lim et al.,2022; Park et al., 2023). A recent study that was conducted on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Center for Health Statistics focused on one potential contributor to social isolation and loneliness throughout the United States; and the results may be surprising to many individuals. According to Laryssa Mykyta (2024), author of the CDC’s report, evidence indicates that people who live alone (regardless of age, gender, and socioeconomic status) report feelings of isolation and depression approximately 30% more than individuals who do not live alone. In other words, living alone seems to create an environment upon which individuals can more easily become lonely and socially isolated, especially ...
