IntroductionRespiratory virus season is here. Let’s work together to get New Hampshire vaccinated. Get the information you need to educate your community. Join the New Hampshire Public Health Association this fall and winter 2023-2024 season in building awareness of the importance of vaccination to reduce the impact of respiratory illnesses on New Hampshire residents.
Vaccination is especially important this year as flu, COVID-19, RSV, and other respiratory viruses are expected to continue to rise throughout the United States. The good news is that for the first time, we have vaccines available to immunize against all three viruses. Together, we can help protect the communities we serve by encouraging everyday preventive actions and promoting vaccination by sharing the following talking points, sample messages, and social media posts. These toolkits serve to amplify pro-vaccination efforts and strategies and are designed to equip public health and healthcare professionals and their partners with talking points

and resources for discussing COVID-19, flu, and RSV vaccination with adults and parents.
The social media graphics and messages provided in these toolkits will help you to promote vaccination on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Each post has been designed specifically for each platform and will fall within the platform's specifications. If there are other platforms you want to use, you can adjust the messages to fit the requirements of that platform. We encourage you to tailor the messages in this toolkit to your specific audiences or add recognizable hashtags your audience follows. The talking points are intended for use by trusted messengers during conversations with patients and community members. Talking points are most effective when you use your own language to share the basic information laid out in the points in the style of speech that is both expected and best understood by your audiences. These toolkits were developed after performing an environmental scan of national and state-level immunization entities to ascertain existing messaging, a listening session with participants recruited by NHPHA, and message testing with 34 respondents recruited by NHPHA (88% nonclinical/non-public health audience, 12% clinical/public health audience). Preparing for the Winter Respiratory Season
As was seen during the 2022-2023 fall/winter respiratory season, the co-circulation of flu (influenza) virus, SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and other respiratory viruses could lead to significant illness and hospitalizations, and place a high burden on families, communities, and New Hampshire’s healthcare system.
Use these general talking points to share information with patients and community members on vaccination and how they can stay as healthy as possible this winter.

Talking Points for the Winter Respiratory Season
- Getting information from trusted sources is important, especially as information on vaccination and winter illnesses changes. Know that VaxWell New Hampshire and the CDC are two recommended information sources you can trust. You can visit vaxwellnh.org/influenza-public and cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/index.html to learn more.
- Symptoms of the flu, COVID-19, and RSV are very similar. Coughing, runny nose, fever, and sneezing are a few of the symptoms you might have with any of these. The only sure way to know that you may be sick with flu, COVID-19, or RSV is to get tested. Getting tested is especially important if your symptoms are getting worse.
- Stock up on free COVID tests that you can take at home at COVID.gov. You can fill out a form and have tests sent right to your home. You can find in-person locations to get tested for COVID-19 at testinglocator.cdc.gov.
